1:00:00

Press Space to start or pause. Use Full screen to show the clock on a projector.

Everything runs in your browser. The name you type is shown only on your screen and is not sent anywhere.

How to use the exam timer

  1. Pick the exam length, or type any number of minutes in the custom box.
  2. Optionally type a name such as the subject or class so it appears above the clock.
  3. Press Full screen for a projector or a classroom display, then Start (or press Space).
  4. While the timer runs it shows the time the exam ends and announces when less than 10, 5 and 1 minutes remain. The digits turn orange in the last 10 minutes and red in the last minute.

Made for classrooms and test practice

Not a replacement for official timing

This timer is a convenient classroom and practice tool. For official examinations, follow the exam board or proctor's clock and instructions. The timer runs in a web page: keep the page open, avoid putting a laptop to sleep, and make sure sound and the screen stay on if you rely on them. The timer calculates remaining time from the computer's clock, so it stays accurate even if the browser slows down the page, but it cannot run if the device is shut down or loses power.

Common exam lengths

UseTypical length
Short quiz10 to 20 minutes
Class test45 to 60 minutes
Midterm or practice paper90 to 120 minutes
Final exam2 to 3 hours

These are everyday examples only. Your school or exam provider sets the real time limit.

Frequently asked questions

How do I show the exam timer on a projector?

Press Full screen, then Start. The clock fills the screen. Press Escape or the Exit full screen button to return.

Can I give students extra time?

Yes. Press +5 min as many times as you need. The extra time is added to the time that is left, and the end time shown on screen updates.

What do the colors mean?

The digits turn orange when 10 minutes or less remain, and red when 1 minute or less remains. When time is up the display shows Time's up and an alarm sounds if sound is on.

Does the exam timer work if I close the laptop lid or the screen locks?

Keep the page open and the device awake. The timer calculates from the clock, so a short interruption does not lose time, but a locked or sleeping device may not sound the alarm at the right moment.

Can I set a time that is not on the list?

Yes. Type any number of minutes from 1 to 600 in the custom box, or open a link such as ?t=75m.

Is this suitable for official exams?

It is meant for classrooms, quizzes and practice. For official exams follow the exam provider's own timing rules.
